Holiday in the middle of nature in southwest Portugal
You wake up with the song of the birds, the bells of the cows in a meadow further away, and the sun shining on your tent. It is not too warm to stay in bed a little longer.
At Portugal Nature Lodge you will find peace and freedom in the beautiful nature of southwest Portugal.
The day starts quietly with a cup of tea or coffee on your terrace while you enjoy the view of the green hills of the nature park and the river further down in the valley. Or do you first take a dip in the natural swimming pool to wake up properly?
Have an nice breakfast at your tent while it slowly gets warmer. Here in the Alentejo Litoral, close to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, the day always starts quietly.
Living with the rhythm of nature.
That happens naturally here. Why do it otherwise? In the morning it is still wonderful to stay on your terrace and at your tent. And if you don’t feel like leaving today, you just stay there.
Maybe you go to the swimming pool for a refreshing dip or a nice swim.
Enjoy reading, chatting, fantasizing, daydreaming, watching what is happening in nature, making something to eat or drink in your own kitchen.
Enjoying each other, not having to do anything.
If you feel like it you go to the beach and the seaside villages, a nice 25-minute drive. The coast here is beautiful to lie on the beach but also to walk. Or just sit on a rock and look at the ocean.
You go for lunch in a nice restaurant in a village or on the beach. Or you bring something for a picnic at a beautiful spot in nature. With local rustic bread, olives and a bottle of Portuguese wine.
And if you want to be active, or see more of authentic Portugal, that is also possible of course. Whatever you feel like.
Evenings under the stars.
After sunset it is dark here. And the sky is usually clear. Perfect for stargazing.
The longer you look at the sky, the more stars you see. That long cloud that the Milky Way first appears to be turns out to consist of millions of small points of light.
From the hammock or on your back on the terrace you can search for constellations. Or just let the starry splendor amaze you without a goal.
Then slip into your comfortable bed in your canvas house for a long sleep. Without worrying about what you have to do the next day.
Meals
Each tent has its own kitchen, so if you want to you can prepare your own meals. There is a café in the village where you can eat a few times a week, and there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity.
For that real holiday feeling, we also provide breakfasts, which we bring to your tent in the morning. Warm breadrolls, homemade condiments, overnight oats and a nice snack.You make your own coffee or tea.
And a few times a week we cook for our guests. Tent delivery!
With a group you can also eat together in the wooden house by the pool.
Our meals are completely plant-based, only at breakfast we have eggs from our own chickens for those who want them.
If you are not vegan, don’t worry. It is really delicious!

The accommodation
Portugal Nature Lodge has 4 beautifully furnished tents on a piece of land of approximately 2 hectares of the 7.5 hectare terrain.
A South African safari tent, two Mongolian yurts, and a lodge tent.
All tents have their own bathroom with a normal toilet and a shower. And hot and cold running water of course.
Each tent also has its own kitchen with a gas stove and a refrigerator, so you can prepare all your own meals if you want.
What makes PNL so unique?
The 4 tents are at a good distance from each other, you don’t have to meet your neighbours if you don’t feel like it.
You really feel like you have your own place, in the middle of nature. With a beautiful ecological swimming pool nearby and a nice Portuguese village with 2 cafes within walking distance.
Really unwind with our retreats
A stay here is always very relaxing. But if you want to spoil yourself or each other extra, recharge completely, then book a (mini) retreat. Also very suitable for couples.

The Lodgetent
The lodgetent is our family tent, it has 2 sleeping cabins.
But it is also a lovely tent for two people.
From the large veranda with lounge sofa you have a far view over the valley.
Next to the tent is the outdoor kitchen with a large picnic table and a wooden house with its own sanitary facilities.
The lodgetent is for a couple or a family with a maximum of 3 children.
The Safari Tent
The safari tent comes from South Africa. It is located on top of its own hill, giving you a beautiful view of the hills all the way to the coast. The best place to enjoy the sunset.
The tent has a lovely double bed and a sitting area. Behind the tent is the bathroom with shower and toilet and the kitchen.
In front of the tent is the large veranda where you will spend most of your time.
The safari tent is for 2 people.
The Yurt
Sleeping in a Mongolian yurt is an experience in itself. The round tent with the window in the roof to the sky has something magical. In the evening you look at the stars, in the morning the first thing you see is the blue sky.
Here too the view from the terrace is fantastic.
Next to the tent is a wooden house with your own bathroom and an outdoor kitchen.
The yurt is for 2 people, with a sofa bed for a young child.
‘We’ are Peter and Joke.
In 2006 we quit our jobs, sold our house in Holland and went on a cycling trip. We wanted to go cycling for a year and find a place in a completely different country to work for a while.
We didn’t know what we wanted to do yet, we assumed that it would work out fine.
After a long trip through North and South America we returned to Europe due to family circumstances, to be closer to home. That’s how we ended up in Portugal.
And we fell in love with this place in the Alentejo, where we immediately felt at home. And we never left again.
We had never thought about starting a glamping. By the way, that word didn’t even exist back then, in 2008. But renting out luxury tents was an idea that wouldn’t let us go when we were able to buy this beautiful piece of land in the small village of Troviscais.
In June 2009 we had our first guests. And people are still surprised by this paradise spot where it is so easy to relax and be yourself.

Staying at PNL is a moment out of time…
We had the chance to stay in the Safari tent around mid August for 2 years now. Immersed in nature and calm, we came to watch the shooting stars. And every night, the show was breathtaking!
The tent is very confortable, with stunning view and large terrasse to admire the sunset. Also special note for the hosts, Peter and Joke, who are very welcoming and accommodating!
Already thinking to come back next year 🙂
The best place, to spend days near the coast.
Very polite and helpful owners, they told us where to spend our days with a plenty of informations.
We have stayed at the yurt in the forest and it is the most local experience!

There are no words to describe the experience of glamping at Portugal Nature Lodge.
Me and my daughter are forever thankful to the most beautiful hosts Joke and Peter.
We stayed in São Luis for 3 weeks, and it was not enough. We got addicted to watching the stars and chilling at the pond. There are plenty of awesome hikes around as well. People are extremely friendly and welcoming; we felt like we were visiting old friends.
Glamping side provides the comfort and atmosphere for total relaxation, and we fell in love with that part of Portugal – Alentejo, offering the most wonderful nature, beaches, food, wines, horses and so much more.
Yes, and I have to mention that Joke is a talented cook that is using all natural local ingredients. If you get a chance, sign up for breakfast and dinner, you won’t regret it.

Pretty much everything. Excellent location, remote while being close enough to amenities that getting supplies isn’t an issue.
The space allotted for the accommodation is plentiful, and distant enough from the other plots that you aren’t disturbed by others. The hosts were accessible, friendly, and informative. I would absolutely stay again if I’m in that region.
